SIGNS
Published on February 16th, 2009
I have never been a very pious man, but I do believe in G-od. I have realized in the realm of my life that there are signs that direct me to certain paths. Previously, I walked
a path dominated by negative signs. Sometimes people have a way of masking negativity, and one can become blinded by it. When negative signs are realized, it is hard to remove yourself from this negativity since we all find comfort when things stay
the same. Signs show us positive or negative change. And if you follow those positive signs, it will make your life a lot easier and happier. It is only the human way: to take something unfamiliar and make it recognizable. Sometimes I take this literally when I begin to explore something new. For example, when I am interviewing for a new job, I look for street signs with words that are recognizable to me; the more familiar I am
when I see each sign, the better likelihood I will enjoy the job. This may seem irrational since we are spoon fed to think logically, but as an artist who feels in touch with the universe this is my gift onto you: follow the positive signs or feel them out to be sure if they're ones that fit to what you want.
IT'S THE END OF THE YEAR AS WE KNOW IT
Published on December 21st, 2008
I can't believe the year is almost at its end, yet this year-end ritual feels familiar each time the year reaches its demise. With the year closing, I take the chance to reflect
on my accomplishments as a path to achieving better next year. I am two years and going strong as a Graphic Arts teacher at middle school in Antioch, Illinois. I feel
that I have contributed to the growth of future graphic artists/designers by teaching
them the fundamentals of art and the tools necessary so they can develop into
better artists or designers. Freelancing was plentiful, but came to a screeching halt
due to the broken economy. I was a finalist in a few logo contest, but as I realized:
bias takes priority over quality. Some resolutions for the up-and-coming new year
are to finish the print materials for my freelance business, teach Graphic Arts
part-time at the community college, win a few logo contests, branch out to design forums like www.crowdspring.com, develop my artist identity with conceptual art projects.
